  1. Witcher 3 Dice Poker Mod

Dice poker once again makes an appearance as one of the mini-games in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Due to its inherent reliance on sheer luck, it is not a good way of making money. The game is essentially unchanged from The Witcher, except that you now must physically 'roll' the dice and you have the possibility of losing one or more of them if they roll off the playing surface. The dice game in The Witcher is totally obnoxious. Considering what a phenomenal game The Witcher is, and further considering how engrossing the graphics and sound of the dice game are, it comes as a huge disappointment that the game is rigged. In my latest playthrough I've won 5 out of over thirty dice matches. This mod will conflict with any mod that edits the mgpoker.2da file. If you want me to combine mods that edit this file, just ask. Possible Glitch: If you install one of the files, save your game, and then change the file, it will glitch. It won't show the amount of money you're betting anymore.

If you have played The Witcher or The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, you’re familiar with Dice Poker, the addictive little minigame that came with the first two games, and that has been replaced by the card game Gwent in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Lead Quest Designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz explained on the official forums that at one point in time the team wanted to have both minigames in their latest title, but the idea was discarded for production reasons.

Dice Poker simply could not be translated to the new game without recreating it from scratch for technical reasons, and this would have required programmers, designers and artists to work on it for a long time. Due to time constraints and the large number of new features that have been implemented, this was not considered possible. There simply weren’t enough people to work on both minigames and the rest of the game, so after long discussions the team had to choose.

The folks at CD Projekt are aware that not everyone may be happy with the decision, but they wanted a chance to create a new minigame instead of just making the same for the first time. Tomaszkiewicz understands that some will be dissatisfied, but hopes that they’ll give Gwent a chance when the game will be released.

Asked whether it’d be possible for Dice Poker to return as DLC, Tomaszkiewicz mentioned that he’d throw the proposal at the team, but knowing the production plans, it’s very unlikely, and he doesn’t want to create false hopes or make empty promises.

There has also been some discussion among the community about the fact that Gwent is not exactly fitting with the lore, as it really doesn’t fit as a game that would be played in the world of The Witcher by its inhabitants.

Tomaszkiewicz explained that there has been fierce discussion on this among the team as well. It has been a long process with different versions of the board and the decks experimented on, but in the end they went with suspension of disbelief because the minigame is supposed to be a light-hearted break from the seriousness of the story. They focused fully on the fun of the game, even at the cost of breaking immersion and lore a bit.

The cards include several winks for the fans of the previous games and the books, and Tomaszkiewicz feels that its pure “fun factor” compensates for breaking the fourth wall.

In addition to this, we get more information from Level Designer Miles Tost, who mentioned that the effect following sword swings cannot be deactivated, because it serves as visual feedback between weak and strong attacks.

@ACFan101 I don’t think you can. Serves as visual feedback for whether you used a fast or strong attack.

He also mentioned that he’s “superproud” of what the team has achieved:

@Flare_TM Aww, I don’t know about GOTY but I’m superproud of what we achieved and I love the game to bits. Wait till release is killing me.

Finally, a lone new screenshot has been released on Facebook today. Looks like on Sunday we get a limited version of the daily dose. You can check it out at the top of the post.

Witcher 3 Dice Poker Mod

Edited: Hello sirs and madames. I'm here because I'm real salty that the Witcher 2's Dice Poker music isn't as good as The Witcher 1's Dice Poker music, and I've determined to mod the old music back in. This has proved more difficult than expected, though, so I've come here to seek any help you folks might be able to provide.
My understanding from poking around in the games files that the audio is stored in .FSB files, and you'd have to crack those open and replace the desired music file with a modded one. Now, I have hunted up and down and all around trying to figure this out, and a lot of info seems to be lost to time and 404s. I've downloaded multiple versions of FMOD Designer, but couldn't find the apparent 'right' one, FMOD 4.32.04. And even so, I'm not entirely sure how I'd even go about creating a new/altered .FSB file with the software. I've managed to figure out how to unpack the .FSB files, but not how to pack them back up successfully. I've heard of something called fsbankex.exe which apparently people have used, but no luck on finding that particular executable myself.
I know for a fact that modding this game's audio isn't impossible. At least one mod exists on Nexus that replaces the heartbeat sound effect for the Cat potion with a silent file, and the download is a .FSB, so the guy who did that must have had a way to alter those files. Does anyone here have any experience modding this game and especially its audio? I'd appreciate any pointers in the right direction.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
